OKIETATE WINS THRILLING THREE-HORSE PHOTO FINISH
OKLAHOMA CITY – Wednesday’s $34,000 allowance turf feature at 1-1/16 miles came down to a thrilling stretch battle between three runners, separated by only a neck overall. When the photo-finish picture sorted the trio out, Okietate emerged with a nose victory over Red Hot Quest with Setnmupknocknmdown a neck behind him in third.
Okietate had to wait for room behind traffic as the field moved off the final turn to the stretch. Jockey Jamie Theriot was able to maneuver the 5-year-old gelding to the inside of Setnmupknocknmdown, who had the lead at the top of the lane, with Red Hot Quest moving to the outside. The trio rolled over the final yards together with Okietate just edging up for the victory in 1:43.82 over the firm turf.
Owned by the Richter Family Trust of Perkins, Okla. and trained by Kenny Nolen, Okietate was the 9-5 wagering favorite and paid $5.80 to win, $3.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Red Hot Quest was a hard-luck second, paying $3.60 to place and $3.60 to show. Setnmupknocknmdown returned $4.40 to show after his fifth consecutive top-three finish this season.
An Oklahoma-bred by Orientate from Bien Nicole, the multiple graded-stakes winning mare by Bien Bien, Okietate has now won three career races with all scores at Remington Park. The winner’s share of $21,145 on Wednesday moved his overall earnings to $141,634.
The Thoroughbred season continues Thursday thru Saturday, Nov. 8-10 with the first race nightly at 6:30pm. The $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes is the featured race of the week on Friday night.
