JUVENILES SHARE SATURDAY'S HEINEKEN HOLIDAYFEST CARD
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Mike Repole's Overanalyze seeks his second stakes victory on Saturday in the Grade 2, $250,000 Remsen for 2-year-olds while Juddmonte Farms' homebred Emollient looks to build on her impressive maiden victory in the Grade 2, $250,000 Demoiselle for juvenile fillies at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The Demoiselle and the Remsen, both at 1 1/8 miles, will be run as races 6 and 7 on Saturday's 10-race Heineken Holidayfest card, which is highlighted by the Grade 1 Gazelle and the Grade 1 Cigar Mile. First race post time is noon.
A 3 ¼-length winner of the Grade 2 Futurity in September at Belmont Park, Overanalyze comes into the Remsen off a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Iroquois at Churchill Downs. As the 9-5 favorite, the Dixie Union colt raced wide in sixth through the early going, fell back on the turn and then rallied to gain third, eight lengths behind Uncaptured. He will run as part of an entry with Repole's Micromanage, who came off a five-length maiden victory to finish fifth in the Grade 1 Foxwoods Champagne.
"They're two up-and-coming colts and it's good to get 1 1/8 miles under their belt," said Repole, whose colors also will be carried Saturday by Stay Thirsty in the Cigar Mile. "This is a big day for Repole Stable. Most people would split them up, but for me to have two colts in the Remsen and a filly [Unlimited Budget] in the Demoiselle and Stay Thirsty in the Cigar Mile, Saturday is my Breeders' Cup."
Trainer Todd Pletcher has named Ramon Dominguez, New York's leading rider, aboard Overanalyze for the first time as he leaves from post position 7. Micromanage will be ridden by Hall of Famer John Velazquez from post position 3, with the entry listed at 4-1 on the morning line.
Completing a Pletcher-trained triumvirate for the Remsen is Twin Creeka Racing Stables' Delhomme, who is tabbed as the 2-1 morning-line favorite from post position 4 with Javier Castellano in the irons.
Second as the favorite in his debut at Saratoga Race Course, Delhomme then posted a front-running maiden victory on October 13 at Belmont. The Dixie Union colt, who fetched $440,000 in March, covered a mile in 1:35.52 under a hand ride and earned a 94 Beyer Speed Figure in the process.
Featured on the resumes of Grade 1 winners To Honor and Serve, Nobiz Like Shobiz, Bluegrass Cat and Coronado's Quest, as well as Kentucky Derby winners Thunder Gulch, Pleasant Colony, Go for Gin, Northern Dancer and Carry Back, the Remsen also attracted several impressive maiden winners including Normandy Invasion, who rallied to post a 9 ¼-length maiden win on November 2 at the Big A.
Jose Lezcano will ride the Chad Brown trainee, the second choice at 3-1 on the morning line, from post position 10.
Rounding out the Remsen field are Irsaal, Vegas No Show, Keep the Canoli, Indy's Illusion, Stormy Len and Quinzieme Monarque.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Emollient was second at nearly 20-1 in her debut in September at Saratoga, beaten only a half-length by Cue the Moon, who returned to finish a game second to My Happy Face in the Grade 3 Tempted. A daughter of Empire Maker, Emollient returned as the odds-on choice at Belmont in her next start and did not disappoint, rallying three-wide on the turn and going on to a 2 ¾-length win.
She covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.83, earning a 98 Beyer speed figure.
Junior Alvarado will ride Emollient, the even-money favorite on the morning line, from the rail.
Repole and Pletcher also will be well-represented in the Demoiselle with Unlimited Budget, who sailed to a 9 ½-length maiden victory on November 9 at the Big A. Coconut Shrimp also was entered but most likely will run in Thursday's Lie Low on the turf.
In her first start, Unlimited Budget, a daughter of Street Sense for whom Repole paid $475,000 at the OBS March Selected Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, took command with a half-mile to go and was never challenged as she completed the mile in 1:37.82 over a "good" track.
"She's pretty special," said Repole of Unlimited Budget. "She's coming back on 15 days rest, but there aren't too many options at the distance."
The pair is listed at 2-1 on the morning line, with Unlimited Budget drawing post position 3 under Hall of Famer John Velazquez. Coconut Shrimp drew post 5 with Javier Castellano in the irons.
Rounding out the field are Miss Patricia, Flash Forward, Giant Cats Eye, and Ruby Lips.
