EDMUND TEICHT CAPTURES AQUEDUCT HANDICAPPING CHALLENGE
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Edmund Teicht of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. topped 223 other players and took home the $37,500 first prize in the 2012 Fall Handicapping Challenge this weekend at Aqueduct Racetrack.
"It's great," said Teicht. "I always wanted to win a NYRA tournament, so this is big for me."
Teicht finished the two-day contest with a mythical bankroll of $1,422, defeating Scott Carson of New York, N.Y., who won second prize of $11,600 with a mythical bankroll of $1,276. Third-place finisher David Guberman of Bronx, N.Y. amassed a mythical bankroll of $1,260 and earned $8,000 in prize money.
Guberman, along with fourth-place finisher Stephanie Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y., and fifth-place finisher Frank Klich of Maspeth, N.Y., also qualified for the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship (NHC) presented by Sovereign Stable and Treasure Island in Las Vegas. Teicht and runner-up Carson had previously qualified for the NHC, which will be held January 25-26, 2013 at Treasure Island on the Las Vegas strip.
The Aqueduct Fall Challenge format allowed players nine $20 win, place, or show mythical wagers and one $40 wager during both days of the weekend contest. Players could choose to wager on any race from Aqueduct, Calder, and Woodbine. At least five of each player's 10 daily wagers must have been made at Aqueduct.
In addition to the cash prizes awarded to the overall top 20 contest finishers, a $1,500 prize was awarded to the player who accumulated the highest mythical bankroll on each day.
Guberman took home the prize on Day 1 while Terry Tanzer won on Day 2.
