FERDIE MAC BREAKS THE BANK IN SLOPPY FEATURE
OKLAHOMA CITY – Against an extremely competitive field of nine runners which had an average of $125,000 in lifetime earnings per-runner, Ferdie Mac was an upset winner in the seventh race, $33,400 allowance/optional claiming feature race Friday night at Remington Park. With the lowest lifetime earnings in the field of $61,950 and just three lifetime wins, the 30-1 longshot won the six furlong sprint in a rapid 1:10.79 seconds over a sloppy strip.
Ridden by Nena Matz, the four-year-old Oklahoma-bred sired by Fistfite was never far off of the pace-setting Normandy Shore and proved best after a stretch-long battle to the finish. Trained by Kenny Nolen, the gelding is owned by Red Hill Stable LLC. The win for Ferdie Mac was worth $21,196 and boosted his lifetime record to 4 wins from 12 starts and earnings of $83,146.
Ferdie Mac paid $65.20 to win, $20.00 to place and $8.80 to show. Normandy Shore gutted-out a second-place finish and paid $3.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Private Bounty settled for third and paid $3.20 to show. The race favorite, Light Up The Score, never got involved over the off track and was a non-threatening fourth.
Cliff Berry, Remington Park’s all-time leading jockey, was held winless on the nine-race card. Berry is 13 wins away from career win 4,000. A Berry Big Win, an on-track promotion at Remington Park has begun whereby patrons are eligible to win a $500 cash drawing on whatever night Berry wins his 4,000 race. Contestants may gain an entry blank for the drawing each time Cilff Berry wins a race at Remington Park. Go to: www.remingtonpark.com for more details.
