LITTLE MIKE AND I’M A DREAMER TOP LIST OF 13 ARLINGTON-RACED HORSES ON LIST OF BREEDERS’ CUP PRE-ENTERED HORSES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Oct. 24, 2011) – Led by Breeders’ Cup Challenge winners Little Mike and I’m A Dreamer, a total of 13 horses who have raced at Arlington Park were among the 180 horses pre-entered for this year's event to be run at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. on Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3. Of the 13 Arlington-raced horses, two were stakes winners here this year, eight started here but did not win a stakes race here in 2012 and the remaining three raced here in previous seasons.
The Grade I Arlington Million and Grade I Beverly D. were again part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” format, which automatically places the winners of selected major stakes races at racetracks worldwide including Arlington Park, into a corresponding divisional race. Beverly D. heroine I’m A Dreamer used her “Win & You’re In” berth into the Grade I $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and the connections of Little Mike, whose Million win earned him a berth into the Grade I $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf, pre-entered both that race and the Grade I $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Joining I’m A Dreamer in the Filly & Mare Turf are Beverly D. runner-up Marketing Mix and sixth-place finisher Up.
In addition to Little Mike, two other Million starters have been pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup. Willcox Inn, who won an allowance race here this year as well as two-thirds of the 2011 Mid-America Triple over the Arlington Turf, has been pre-entered in the Mile while Treasure Beach, the 2011 Grade I Secretariat Stakes winner who finished sixth in this year’s Million, has been pre-entered in the Turf.
Pool Play, third in Grade III Washington Park Handicap; and Handsome Mike, fourth in the Secretariat, have been pre-entered for the Grade I $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. Handsome Mike has also been pre-entered in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
The remaining two 2012 Arlington starters pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup are 2-year-olds pointing to the Grade I $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf - Brown Almighty and Under Review, each of whom broke their maidens here.
Three horses who started here in the past are also among the pre-entries for this year’s Championships – Animal Kingdom (Mile), the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner who started his career at Arlington as a 2-year-old in 2010; Fort Larned (Classic), eighth in the 2011 Arlington Classic; and Eldaafer (Grade II $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon), the 2010 Marathon winner who ran fourth in the 2009 edition of the Washington Park Handicap.
This year’s two-day Breeders’ Cup format has six championship races slated to be run on Friday, Nov. 2 and the remaining nine championship events contested Saturday, Nov. 3.
The 15-race Breeders' Cup World Championships, with $25.5 million in total purses, will be simulcast to Arlington Park and its network of Trackside off-track wagering facilities.
On Friday, first post at Santa Anita is 1:15 p.m. Central time with the first of six Breeders’ Cup races slated to go to the post at 3:06 p.m. CT. The last of Friday’s Breeders’ Cup races, the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic will be run at 6:30 p.m. CT. Illinois Thoroughbred racing at Hawthorne will start at 1:30 p.m. CT.
