ROUND-TRIPPER FOR PEDROIA AT SUFFOLK DOWNS;
JOCKEY JORGE VARGAS WINS THREE
EAST BOSTON, MA - Pedroia, a chestnut filly named after the popular Red Sox All-Star second baseman, won the third race at Suffolk Downs on Wednesday, August 29, her first win at the East Boston oval.
Ridden by Hector Ramos and trained by Arthur Duffy, Jr., the four-year-old daughter of Graeme Hall sat off the pace and seized command at the top of the stretch, drawing off by 9 3/4 lengths and completing the one mile and 70 yard distance in 1:47.60.
Pedroia returned $3.40, 2.20 and 2.20 as the heavy favorite in the field of eight.
Also on the card, Jorge Vargas made three trips to the winner's circle. Vargas started the day by sweeping the early double with Miss Melody ($4.40) and Rav'n Mad in Love ($8.20). He capped off his hat trick in the ninth race with Grand Bahama ($8.80).
