WORKOUTS BEGIN, FLYPEGASUSFLY GETS FIRST OFFICIAL CLOCKING

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park main track opened this morning as training started, one month from the beginning of the 2012 Thoroughbred Season. Flypegasusfly had the first official workout with a half-mile drill at 6:30am.

Owned and trained by Todd Sneed of Anadarko, Okla., Flypegasusfly was timed in :49.41 seconds handily by Remington Park clocker Vicky Grothaus. Jockey Benny Landeros was aboard. The 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Bandini from the King of Kings (Ire) mare Real Queen pleased Sneed with the effort.

“It was his first workout since I brought him back into training this summer,” Sneed said. “He worked well, I was pleased with it. The plan is to get him a work every week leading up to the season and then hopefully start him in an Oklahoma-bred maiden special weight race on Opening Weekend.

Flypegasusfly has one start, a sixth-place effort at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. in early March.

Remington Park will conduct morning training daily beginning at 6am.

The 2012 Thoroughbred Season at Remington Park opens on Aug. 10 and continues thru Dec. 9. Racing will be conducted on a Friday and Saturday night basis for two weeks before adding Wednesday and Thursday to the weekly schedule beginning Aug. 22. Normal post time is 6:30pm.

The top day of the season is on Sunday, Sept. 30, featuring the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby. The 24th-running of the 1-1/8 miles race will headline a card worth more than $1 million. Oklahoma Derby Day is one of just two Sunday afternoon programs during the season with the other begin Dec. 9, featuring the $300,000 Springboard Mile.

Oklahoma-breds will have their evening to shine with the 20th renewal of the Oklahoma Classics on Friday, Oct. 19. The eight divisional races carry combined purses of over $1,000,000 (estimated). The top event of the evening is the Classis Cup, worth $175,000 (estimated) for 3-year-olds and older at 1-1/16 miles.
