NANI ROSE QUOTES
Bill Mott, winning trainer of Alaura Michele (No. 2): “It’s always nice. It’s nice we had one more [horse] – the last chance of the day. We have been waiting a while to run her. The race landed on this particular day. So, it worked out well. She’s a deserving filly. She ran very well last year. She was a stakes winner as a two-year-old. I thought he [Eddie Castro] did a very good job. She is not easy to ride. She can be a little funny with her head. She wants to get a little strong sometimes. If you take too much hold, she will tip her nose up in the air at you and resent it. He got along nicely with her.”
Regarding his tendency to win on his birthday: “It’s like lions eating wildebeests, I suppose. It’s part of nature’s plan.”
Note: A $2 win bet placed on each of Mott’s starters on July 29 since 2006 would have yielded a profit of $42.40. Mott turned 59 years old today.
Eddie Castro, winning jockey aboard Alaura Michele (No. 2): “She relaxed behind horses early. I had to wait a little bit, but I was able to her in the clear in the quarter pole, and she made a nice move and finished strong.”
