TREASURED UP FAVORED IN GRADE III ARLINGTON OAKS

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (July 18, 2012) – The Grade III $150,000 Arlington Oaks returns to the Arlington schedule on Saturday after a one-year absence and drew a well-matched field of eight sophomore distaffers.

Heading the field for the mile and an eighth Polytrack race is Spendthrift Farm’s Treasured Up, third in the Grade III Regret at Churchill Downs in her last start June 16.  That $100,000 race was on turf as was her previous race, a fourth-place finish in the $150,000 Edgewood Stakes on the Kentucky Oaks undercard.  Prior to that, the Al Stall Jr.-trained daughter of Medaglia d’Oro won a first level allowance over Keeneland’s Polytrack course.  Miguel Mena picks up the mount Saturday.

Among those slated to face Treasured Up are the 1-2-3 finishers in the $66,400 Mariah’s Storm Stakes here last month – Feel the Thunder Stable, John Adger & Mike Stidham’s Lady Candidate; Adele Dilschneider & Claiborne Farm’s Ire; and Chasing Tables Stables’ Ann of the Dance.

In addition to her Mariah’s Storm score, the Stidham-trained Lady Candidate was an easy winner on a first-level allowance here on May 25 and is a perfect two-for-two on the year.  James Graham has been named to ride.

Ire, also trained by Stall, finished second in the $66,400 Meafara Stakes here in addition to her runner-up finish in the Mariah’s Storm.  The Political Force filly is a winner over Polytrack, breaking her maiden over Keeneland’s synthetic surface in April.  Inosencio Diego gets the call.

Ann of the Dance, a two-time winner here in 2011, is looking for her first victory of the season in the Arlington Oaks.  The Wayne Catalano-trained daughter of English Channel will be ridden by Diego Sanchez.

John Oxley’s Sky Dreamer invades from Canada for Saturday’s headliner off a 5 ¾-length tally in a first-level allowance over the Polytrack surface at Woodbine Race Course.  Jermaine Bridgmohan is slated to ride the Sky Mesa filly trained by Mark Casse.

Hernandez Racing Club’s Illinois-bred La Tia comes into the race off a sparkling 8 ¼-length score in the $113,125 Purple Violet Stakes over state-bred rivals on Prairie State Festival Day June 16 to record her second straight victory over Arlington’s Polytrack after breaking her maiden by nine lengths on May 25.  Constantino Roman will ride the Brian Williamson-trained daughter of City Place.

Completing the field for the Arlington Oaks are: Olympia Star’s Emona (Florent Geroux), third in both the Grade III Iowa Oaks and the Meafara; and G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s Annie Russell (Rosemary Homeister Jr.), third in an allowance race here June 15.
