KINGSTON (NYB) QUOTES

Bruce Brown, winning trainer of Compliance Officer (No. 8): “It was a little stressful because you never really know how they’ll come back. You think he’s doing really well, but until you actually get him out there and in the heat of battle, you’re not really sure what’s going to happen. But he picked up right where he left off and he should only get better from here on in. He wintered well, and came back well, and is doing well. The New York-bred races are hard to pass up because the money is so good, but the next one is not until Saratoga [West Point presented by Trustco Bank, August 16]. We’ll talk about it and probably look for an open race between this and the Saratoga race, and if he runs well in the open race we might be heading more that way.”

Javier Castellano, winning jockey aboard Compliance Officer (No. 8): “I’m very lucky with the trip I was able to get. I was in the perfect spot. I was able to relax right behind the speed. I’d never ridden this horse before, but I watched the replays and he’s a smart horse. You can do whatever you want with him. He relaxed; that’s the key. When he relaxed for me on the backside I knew he was going to be tough to beat today. When I asked him, he took off. It was amazing. I really like him; he’s a really nice horse.”
