AFFIRMED SUCCESS (NYB) QUOTES

David Jacobson, winning trainer of Saginaw (No. 3): “I love cutbacks, and this will make him better the next time he goes long. Whatever [New York-bred] race is next, you’re going to see him, if he comes out this race well. He just did it so easily. Rick Dutrow [trainer of runner-up Uncle T Seven] is one of the best, and to be head-and-head with one of his horses makes you feel nervous, but to put him away like that makes you feel good.”

David Cohen, winning jockey aboard Saginaw (No. 3): “He broke very well. Usually, he gets pretty tough and grabs the bit and I’m just trying to slow him down as much as I can. Today, he really relaxed very well for me. We sat off the front runner [Uncle T Seven] very easily and when I called on him, he picked it up just like he always does and finished very strong. Even though he is an older horse he seems to be growing up mentally. I’ve been taking a lot of time with him. Having a quicker split may have helped [him relax]; they weren’t going 24. Today we had 22 and four and I think that probably helped out more than anything. Big ups to Drawing Away Stable and David Jacobson.”
