WHAT:      Drawing of Post Positions for the $1 million Louisiana Derby,

the richest race of the Fair Grounds season and a key prep race

for 3-year-olds pointing to the May 5 Kentucky Derby

 

WHO:         Trainers and jockeys of top Louisiana Derby contenders,

as well as Fair Grounds executives, including:

 

Larry Jones, trainer of likely favorite Mark Valeski

Rosie Napravnik, jockey for Mark Valeski

                    Ron Faucheux, New Orleans native and trainer of Comisky’s Humor

                    Steve Margolis, trainer of 13 ¾-length maiden winner Cigar Street

                    Tim Bryant, Fair Grounds President

Fair Grounds’ signature race, the $1 million Louisiana Derby, showcases top 3-year-old Thoroughbreds preparing for the most famous race in the world, the May 5 Kentucky Derby.

 

This year’s Louisiana Derby could attract one of the largest crowds in recent history thanks to the tens of thousands of horse-loving Kentuckians expected to descend upon New Orleans for the Final Four, which will include the University of Louisville and, possibly, the University of Kentucky.

 

The Post Position Draw determines which slot in the starting gate each horse will break from.
