Manny Coronel, winning trainer of Risky Rachel (No. 1): On winning a stakes with his first starter: “It’s amazing. It’s like a dream come true.”
On whether he was concerned about post position 1: “She has speed, which made a huge difference. Cornelio [Velasquez] knows her, and he kept her inside the other speed until he could move outside.”
On where Risky Rachel will go from here: “First, we want to see how she is tomorrow. Then we’ll see what’s going to happen. She’s such a nice New York-bred, and I’m just so blessed and so happy.”
Cornelio Velasquez, winning jockey aboard Risky Rachel (No. 1): “She’s a nice filly. She didn’t have a good post, but she stayed close, and I had a lot of horse. She won easily; I didn’t hit her or anything. Very impressive. I’m very happy for the trainer that he got his first win, he’s a good friend of mine.”
