race 3 and race 4 run for purse only due to TOTE FAILURE

NEW ORLEANS (Friday, January 13, 2012) – A tote failure on track forced officials to suspend wagering on Friday’s Race 3 and Race 4, which were run for purse money only.

The failure occurred about 6 minutes prior to the original 1:42 CST post time for Race 3 and was fixed more than one hour later at 2:55 p.m.

Per the Louisiana State Racing Commission’s Rules of Racing, Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta wagers on Race 3 and Race 4 were refunded. Live Daily Double and Pick Three bets were paid out to tickets that were still live after Race 2. Early Pick Four bets beginning in Race 2 were paid to tickets with the correct winners in the first and last legs, while “All” was used for the two middle legs run for purse money only.

“We sincerely apologize to our fans for this tote failure, but especially to those holding tickets that otherwise might have been winners,” said Fair Grounds Vice President and General Manager Eric Halstrom. “We have yet to determine a specific cause, but we do know that the issue was with our contracted tote provider, Amtote. Despite Amtote’s best efforts, there was no way to offer wagering on those two races.”

After the tote issue was rectified, Race 5 was assigned a 3:20 p.m. post time.
