NEW ORLEANS (Saturday, January 21, 2012) – Ramona Bass’s Applauding, the odds-on morning line favorite for Saturday’s $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes, was withdrawn from that first leg of Fair Grounds’ series for sophomore fillies early Saturday morning due to a mild case of colic that developed overnight.

“I would say she just had a slight tummy ache when I got here this morning,” said trainer Al Stall, Jr. shortly after training hours on Saturday. “She responded to treatment immediately.  She’ll be fine.”

Following the Silverbulletday Stakes, Fair Grounds’ annual series for 3-year-old members of the distaff set continues with the Grade III Rachel Alexandra Stakes Feb. 25 and concludes with the Grade II Fair Grounds Oaks March 31, penultimate day of Fair Grounds’ 2011-2012 season.

Stall, a native New Orleanian and two-time trainer champion at Fair Grounds in previous seasons, was elected to the Fair Grounds Hall of Fame earlier this week and will be inducted in a winner’s circle ceremony during the races on Fair Grounds Hall of Fame Day March 10.

Also, in Saturday’s Grade III Lecomte Stakes, signature event of the afternoon’s Road to the Derby Kickoff Day Presented by Hotel Monteleone, Stoneway Farm’s Exfactor remained a starter at scratch time despite sustaining a slight hind leg injury earlier in the week that left his participation uncertain until Saturday morning.

The $175 Lecomte Stakes is the first leg of Fair Grounds’ three-race series for 3-year-olds with designs on a Triple Crown campaign.  It continues with the Grade II Risen Star Stakes Feb. 25 on Louisiana Derby Preview Day Presented by Lamarque Ford and concludes with the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby on the local season’s closing day April 1.
