DALE CAPUANO CAPTURES TWO ON OPENING DAY OF PIMLICO SPRING MEETING

BALTIMORE, 04-01-11---Dale Capuano has won 18 training titles at Pimlico Race Course, including eight of nine spring meets from 1997-2005. Today, the 48-year-old conditioner jumped out in front of the pack with two wins on the opening afternoon of the 2011 spring stand.

After kicking off the day with a pair of second place finishes in races two and three, Capuano captured the sixth race, a $20,000 claimer with Key to a Cure ($17.20), who won for the second consecutive start. One race later, the barn delivered back-to-back victories when Some ($10.80) rallied to break her maiden.

“Pimlico has always been good to us and we are glad to be back,” said Capuano. “We always look forward to the meet because it seems that is when we start heating up. The winter is slow so we try to get our horses ready to run well during this meet and then for the rest of the year.”

Jeremy Rose celebrated his 32nd birthday with a victory on his only mount of the card, guiding Park Rules ($6.40) to the wire first in the fourth race.

A crowd of 4,211 turned out at Old Hilltop under cool conditions.

The 29-day spring meeting will feature live racing through Saturday, May 21. The signature race of the stand is the 136th Preakness® Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, which is 50 days from today on closing day.

Saturday’s 11-race card is headlined by the $50,000 Shine Again Stakes for fillies and mares. Other activities include the third annual Chili Cook-Off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, plus music in-between races by local sensation Dean Crawford.
