LONGTIME SPORTSCASTER HOWARD SUDBERRY JOINS ARLINGTON PARK AS SENIOR DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Jan. 3, 2011) – Longtime television sportscaster Howard Sudberry has joined Arlington Park as Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. Sudberry will start behind the desk this week it was announced Monday.
Sudberry, a lifelong racing fan and son of a trainer, joins Arlington after spending a quarter century as a three-time Emmy Award-winning sports anchor and reporter at WBBM-TV. During his tenure at the CBS affiliate, in addition to providing critically acclaimed coverage for all of Chicago's major sports teams, Sudberry hosted frequent telecasts of major races from Arlington Park including a national broadcast of the 1986 Arlington-Citation Challenge won by Cigar.
Since leaving the station in 2009, Sudberry started his own sports-media consulting firm, Sudberry Media Group. He also produced and co-hosted the 2010 telecast of the Arlington Million that aired on Comcast SportsNet.
In his new role, Sudberry will play an instrumental role in increasing Arlington Park's visibility by contributing to the track's marketing, advertising, sales and communications efforts.
“I am really excited to be involved in a sport that I love, at a racetrack that I love – Arlington Park,” Sudberry said. “I went to Arlington as a young kid as a fan, hosted television shows from Arlington for years, so it's only natural that I wind up working with the team there trying to revitalize the excitement of the sport of Thoroughbred racing and the beauty of the racetrack .”
“We're excited about adding Howard to the team, he not only has strong media credentials but most important, he brings along a wealth of knowledge and a passion for Thoroughbred racing,” said Arlington Park General Manager Tony Petrillo in making the announcement. “Howard will be an excellent addition to our staff.”
Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run an 86-day meet in 2011 from Friday, May 6 through Sunday, Sept. 25.
