ZIMMERMAN GAINS GROUND ON BERRY IN RIDER STANDINGS, ACE AND JIM WINS FIRST AT REMINGTON

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season is now down to just five race dates with the race for supremacy in the jockey colony far from decided. Ramsey Zimmerman posted a riding triple and gained considerable ground on Cliff Berry who holds a slim two-win lead.

Zimmerman won three of the first six races on the Friday program. Mesa Cay ($2.80 to win) was a resounding 11-3/4 length winner in race two to get the triple rolling. Zimmerman followed that romp with Connie ($6.40) in the fourth and Kela’s Assault ($6.60) in race six.

The Zimmerman hat trick gives him 54 wins for the season, placing him just two behind Berry’s 56 wins.

In Friday’s $28,500 optional claiming feature event, Ace and Jim received a strong ride from Jose Medina, coming through an opening at the rail late in the stretch to win by a half-length. Ace and Jim won the five-furlong sprint race in :57.00 seconds over the fast track.

Owned by Danny Caldwell of Poteau, Okla. and trained by Federico Villafranco, Ace and Jim rallied from mid-pack in the field of 12 to score. McTallah fought to hold the winner off but could not sustain his effort, settling for second. Cape Seattle was another three-quarters of a length back in third while Sir Mightas was fourth.

Ace and Jim was ignored in the wagering at 14-1 odds, paying $31.80 to win, $12.60 to place and $6.40 to show. McTallah paid $4.80 to place and $4 to show. Cape Seattle returned $3 to show.

The exacta (Nos. 6-7) paid $134.80 with the quinella (6-7) good for $68.80. The trifecta (6-7-11) paid $486.80 and the superfecta (6-7-11-10) paid $4,793.40.

A 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Snuck In from the Plugged Nickle mare Spend a Nickel, Ace and Jim won his seventh career race from 16 attempts while winning his first Remington Park race. The winner’s share of $16,785 moved the lifetime earnings for Ace and Jim to $59,360.

Racing continues Saturday evening with 11 races underway at 5:30pm. The season will finish on Saturday, Dec. 11 with the richest 2-year-old stakes race of the meeting featured, the $250,000 Springboard Mile.
