TURF PUBLICISTS OF AMERICA ELECTS NEW SLATE OF OFFICERS FOR 2011

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Turf Publicists of America (TPA) has elected a new president and four vice presidents to serve the organization in 2011, it was announced today at the TPA’s Mark Kaufman Workshop at the University of Arizona Symposium on Racing and Gaming.

Incoming President Bill Knauf of Monmouth Park will be joined on the 2011 board by vice presidents Mandy Minger of Daily Racing Form and Peter Rotondo of Breeders' Cup Ltd., each of whom were elected to serve a two-year term under a new voting procedure implemented this year; and vice presidents Julie Sarno, a consultant and former TPA president, and Dan Silver of the New York Racing Association, each of whom were elected to serve a one-year term.

In addition Secretary-Treasurer Dave Zenner of Arlington Park had his term extended by one year to ensure that the president and secretary-treasurer will no longer be elected in the same year.

Knauf, who had served two separate stints as a vice president of the organization, succeeds John Engelhardt of River Downs after his term as president of the TPA expired.  Knauf will serve a two-year term.

The new slate of officers was installed immediately.

The TPA is an organization that was created in 1951. It is comprised of approximately 150 Thoroughbred racing publicists and marketing executives at racetracks throughout North America with the shared goal of promoting the sport of Thoroughbred racing.

Each year, the organization sponsors the TPA Big Sport of Turfdom Award to recognize an individual or individuals who enhanced the sport of thoroughbred racing through their cooperation with the media and racetrack personnel. The Big Sport of Turfdom has been presented annually since 1966.
