royal and flashy wins sunday at fair grounds
By
NEW ORLEANS (Sunday, December 19, 2010) – Double Dam Farm’s Royal and Flashy lacked running room in upper stretch but rallied between horses when clear in the late stages of Sunday’s featured $47,000 allowance test at about one mile over the Stall-Wilson turf course and proved best by a head at the wire.
Trained by Sam Breaux and ridden by Kerwin Clark, the winner toured the distance in 1:39.35, increased his career earnings to $159,900 with his fifth victory in 25 lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $23.40, $11.60 and $7.60.
Alton Anthony Sr.’s Its Mr Slew to You gained the advantage briefly in the late stages, could not withstand the winner when challenged but was gamely second best, finishing three-quarters of a length to the good of Sequoia Racing’s Longhammer.
Its Mr Slew to You paid $20.20 and $11.20, while Longhammer returned $7 in the third position.
Don Benge’s favored Quarter Given made the pace with splits of 24.59 and 49.56 but tired in the drive.
Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
