dajohna wins feature race at fg friday night

NEW ORLEANS (Friday, December 17, 2010) – Divine Equine’s Dajohna broke in full stride to make all the pace and held on willingly to capture the $47,000 filly and mare allowance feature Friday evening at Fair Grounds by a length and a half during the first of four Starlight Racing programs at the New Orleans oval this season.
Ridden by Jamie Theriot and trained by Bret Calhoun, Dajohna accomplished the six-furlong distance in 1:11.93 after setting early fractions of 21.98 and 45.92. The daughter of
Family Fun’s Lokomamma finished second, 1 3/4-lengths in front of Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust’s Exhilarating. Lokamamma paid $3.40 and $2.80, while Exhilarating returned $3.20 for the show spot.
Favored Sorority Rush, an appropriately-named hunch bet for the age dynamic Fair Grounds is attracting with its Starlight Racing series, finished fourth after weakening in the final furlong.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds for its Santa Super Saturday program, featuring five stakes races among 12 races during the afternoon. The regular post time of 12:40 p.m. will be observed.
