MR SPEED WRENCH FASTEST QUALIFIER FOR FQHRA STALLION STAKES FUTURITY
Hialeah, FL December 17- The 3RD of eight weekends of live quarter horse racing at Hialeah Park got underway Friday with the trials for the inaugural running of the $50,000 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity. Three trials were held with 27 horses taking to the track trying to earn one of ten spots in the final on New Year’s Eve.
The trials were contested amidst sunny South Florida skies. In the first trial, heavily favored Smooch and Run stumbled badly and lost all chance. When the dust settled it was the Brad Bolen trained Leavem in the Straw who left them in the dust with an easy victory timed in 18.015. Now undefeated in two starts locally, Leavem in the Straw is a daughter of First Down Straw out of the Heza Fast Man mare Leavem Reeling.
The performance of the day came in the third trial heat from yet another Brad Bolen trainee as Mr Speed Wrench broke like a rocket under Cody Wainscott and held off a late bid by Her First Apollo to register the easy victory in a hand timed 17.633, a qualifying best. Bred by the Flyin Fisch Farm of FQHRA President Dr. Steve Fisch, Mr Speed Wrench is another son of First Down Straw and out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyes Like Rapid. He will headline the cast of 9 others who earned a berth to the final on December 31.
