Longshot Camille Fay Victorious In Inaugural FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity

Hi Everyone,

Today we started off the second half of our 24 day racing season with the $50,000 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity for two year olds at 350 yards. Going in, it seemed fastest qualifier Mr Speed Wrench only need deal with his stable mate Leavem In The Straw to get the win. But at the wire, lightly raced Camille Fay, under leading jockey Oscar Delgado proved best late. Jockey Delgado has now won 3 consecutive stakes races and is constantly padding his lead in the jockey standings. See below and attached for more! Happy New Year From Everyone At Hialeah Park!

Take care,

CAMILLE FAY PULLS OFF UPSET IN FQHRA STALLION STAKES FUTURITY

Hialeah, FL, December 31- Hialeah Park kicked off the second half of the 24 day meet Friday with the inaugural running of the $76,400 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity for two year olds at 350 yards. The race was restricted to the progeny of sires whose seasons were sold in the FQHRA Stallion Service Auction for the 2007 breeding season.

Entering the starting gate, it appeared trainer Brad Bolen had the race cornered, with sharp trial winners Mr Speed Wrench and Leavem In The Straw. But that changed quickly when the starting gate opened. Mr Speed Wrench broke fair and moved to the outside, with stablemate Leavem In The Straw away flat footed. A sharp break by long shot Tinys First Wrangler made her the one to catch with Toast Of Crown And Camille Fay away in the top flight. Nearing the wire, leading jockey Oscar Delgado pulled yet another rabbit out of his hat and Camille Fay surged for the victory.

Camille Fay, a two-year-old filly by Bill Cole making only her second career start, broke only average but unleashed a furious late rally to nail Chicksicle in the closing strides for the victory over the fast racing surface. As an 10-1 outsider, Camille Fay paid $22.20 to win and collected $45,840 for the score, while covering the course in 18.094, which played slow amidst a constant headwind. Pacer setter Tinys First Wrangler held gamely for second, a neck in front of the favorite Mr Speed Wrench who ended up third.

In her only other start Camille Fay ran a good second behind Toast of Crown in her trial for the race but improved rapidly off of that effort and got the win Friday. She was bred in Oklahoma by Roy Bundy and is out of the Merridoc mare High On Merri.

The connections of the winner continue on a tear this season at Hialeah Park. The trainer, Jose Baltierrez has now won three consecutive stakes races, and five over the course of the season. Meanwhile, the jockey, Oscar Delgado, continues on pace for a dominating season. Delgado, too, has won three consecutive stakes wins and had a riding double Friday.

“Unbelievable. I cannot thank everyone enough. It always helps when the owners and trainers trust you with their good horses. The filly ran huge today”, said Delgado with a smile.
