Jazz Be First On Super Stakes Day At Hialeah Park

Good Evening,

Mother nature finally turned her head on us as Super Stakes Day was run under sloppy conditions. The racing was still great, with the 400 yard track record falling for the third time in 2 weeks. See below and attached for more. Happy Holidays!

JAZZ BE FIRST SHINES ON SUPER STAKES DAY AT HIALEAH PARK

Hialeah, FL, December 18- Ridden by last season’s leading jockey Tommy Byrd for trainer Jose Aguirre, Jazz Be First avenged a loss in the trials and set a track record for 400 yards with a resounding win in the $111,750 added Hialeah Laddie Futurity this afternoon at Hialeah Park. The eight-race program featured four stakes run over a sloppy track under unrelenting rainy conditions.

A California son of Bono Jazz from the Strawfly Special mare Last Shall Be First, Jazz Be First covered the distance in 19.227 from the middle of the track and paid $4.60 as the betting favorite, collecting $46,935 in winning purses. Runner-up Tortuga Tony finished a length behind, followed by Or Black Warrior and Drill Baby Drill from the rail.

One race prior, Endless Ocean, who lost to Jazz Be First in the Governor’s Stakes at Hoosie, finished full of run to deliver an emphatic win in the $103,290 added Hialeah Lassie Futurity for owner Abelino Rojas. Bred in Texas, the daughter of Ocean Runaway ran 400 yards in 19.419 under jockey Oscar Delgado.

The breeder of Ocean Runaway, Dan Lucas, sent out a winner of his own in the form of Special Ela who closed to victory in the $20,000 guaranteed La Nina Invitational, a consolation stakes for fillies which ran in the trials but did not qualify for the Lassie. It was Special Ela’s second win from eight career starts for trainer Ron Raper.

In the other undercard stakes, Virginia Treadwell’s Father Regan made up for the trouble he ran into in the Laddie Futurity trials with a game victory over Luminaro in $20,000 guaranteed El Nino Invitational, , a consolation stakes for colts which ran in the trials but did not qualify for the Laddie. Jesus Salazar was on board for the winning ride for trainer Guillermo Valdivia.

The 2nd annual Quarter Horse race meet at Hialeah Park will continue Sunday with a first post of 2:05 PM and the $20,000 Signature Stakes. Hialeah Park invites all fans to come out tomorrow for 99.9 KISS Country Day At The Races and a chance to win tickets to this year’s “Chili Cook Off”.  Hialeah Park will offer racing next week on Christmas Eve, Sunday the 26th as well as a special Monday racing program on December 27th.
