Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Calibrachoa (No. 1a) and runner-up Driven by Success (No. 1): “We didn’t want Calibrachoa and Driven by Success butting heads, so I told David to keep an eye on him and the others. He settled into a good spot, tipped out wide, and finished strongly. We’ll probably send him to the Toboggan [Grade 3, $100,000, January 22].
“We were concerned with Driven by Success breaking from the rail and we thought we’d probably have to send him. He was very, very game. He was under pressure throughout and shook off a couple of challenges. It was a typical big effort from him. Driven by Success is a New York-bred, so that should give us some options on where to go next.”
David Cohen, winning jockey aboard Calibrachoa (No. 1a): “He was pretty straight-and-narrow. He settled well, circled the field, and gave me a very strong finish. He was obviously very well prepared.”
