‘Dude’ Proves ‘Tough’ In Opening Day Stakes At Hialeah
Hialeah, FL December 3- Today was opening day of the second annual Quarter Horse race meet at historic Hialeah Park in South Florida. Under a picture perfect sunny day, an enthusiastic crowd of 1,934 welcomed the first day of racing at the famed oval.
The feature race of the day was the 2nd running of the $20,000 Bienvenido de Nuevo Stakes. There was a full field of 10 competitive starters but it was One Tough Dude, a 4 year old gelded son of Corona Cartel out of Start the Commotion, who won a hard fought drive to reach the wire first with jockey Francisco R. Ramirez, Jr. aboard. One Tough Dude is owned by Jesus Gonzalez and is trained by Alonso Orozco. Corona Con Lima ridden by Miguel Martinez ran a career best while finishing second while Jessa Bambi with Jesus Salazar was third a length behind the winner.
Racing continues tomorrow, Saturday, December 4th, with a special early post time of 12:35 pm. Tomorrow’s card is highlighted by the trials for the 2010 Hialeah Lassie Futurity. Fans can come early and watch the horses train as “Breakfast At Hialeah” returns from 7:30 to 9:30 am in the clubhouse apron. Experts will be available to answer questions and all attendees will receive a free continental breakfast. There will also be a free live concert by Sonora Carruseles following the races. The meet continues through January 23rd with racing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:05 pm. Hialeah Park offers free parking and admission every day, with valet parking available for just $3.
