LONGSHOT CALOOSAHATCHEE WINS TURF FEATURE
OKLAHOMA CITY – When the early frontrunners faded in the final quarter-mile of Friday’s $29,500 optional allowance turf feature, those that rally from off the pace began their battle for the spoils. Caloosahatchee had the best run of that group, seizing the lead with a furlong to go to win as a 24-1 longshot in the event for older fillies and mares.
Owned by John Piehl II of Houston, Caloosahatchee is trained by Brent Davidson. Cliff Berry, the meeting’s leading jockey, was aboard for his 50th win this season. Caloosahatchee was easily clear once she made the lead, holding Tez Savitri at bay by 1-3/4 lengths. Kite Seeker was another three-quarters of a length back for third. Happy Henrietta was a neck farther back in fourth.
Caloosahatchee handled the mile over firm turf in 1:38.66.
The longest shot in the field of nine, Caloosahatchee paid $50.60 to win, $28.80 to place and $16.20 to show. Tez Savitri paid $14 to place and $7 to show. Kite Seeker returned $9 to show.
The exacta (Nos. 6-8) paid $386.60 with the quinella (6-8) returning $294.60. The trifecta (6-8-9) paid $3,282.40 while the 10-cent superfecta (6-8-9-2) paid $1,678.69.
Scarlett Thread was the 2-1 wagering favorite in the event, finishing sixth.
A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Broken Vow from the Storm Creek mare Company Storm, Caloosahatchee won her third race from 10 career starts. It was her second win at Remington Park, both happening this season. The winner’s share of $17,520 moved the overall earnings for Caloosahatchee to $56,919.
Remington Park has 11 races set for Saturday night with the first event scheduled for 5:30pm.
There will be no live racing on Wednesday, Nov. 24 or on Thanksgiving next week. A special afternoon program takes place on Black Friday, Nov. 26, beginning at 1:30pm. All times are central.
