KIT KATS LUCKS WINS FOR FOURTH TIME DURING FALL MEET
LAUREL, MD. 11-27-10---Denning Stables LLC’s Kit Kats Luck has won each of her last six starts at Laurel, including four in a row during the fall meeting. In today’s $32,000 optional allowance, she led from start to finish.
Laurel Park’s leading rider Forest Boyce was at the controls aboard the 3-year-old filly, who is trained by Ted Maher. Kit Kats Luck completed the 1-1/16th mile distance in 1:46.14 and paid $4.40.
“She can run,” Maher said. “She doesn’t have a lot of pedigree but I always liked her from the beginning. She has a nice stride but has some respiratory problems so we have to manage that. She has done really well. I thought she was a little better on the turf but she seems to run over anything.”
The daughter of Deputy Wild Cat began her win streak with a victory on the Laurel turf course on Sept. 18 then on Oct. 6 won an allowance test on a race taken off the turf. She returned to the grass with another trip to the winners’ circle on Nov. 3.
In fact, Kit Kats Luck is winless anywhere else but Laurel Park. She is now 6 for twelve lifetime, with a third place finish in the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on the Black-Eyed Susan day card.
Capixaba is also a perfect four-of-four during the fall campaign.
SMITH MOVES INTO A TIE FOR FIRST PLACE IN THE TRAINER STANDINGS
With three weeks remaining in the fall meet there are six conditioners with a chance at the training title. Hamilton Smith moved into a first place tie with John Rigattieri after Hi Ho Bambino ($5.60) won today’s sixth race. Both have 15 first place finishes, one more than Ferris Allen. Dickie Small (13 wins), Scott Lake (12) and Charles Assimakopoulos (12) are also in the hunt.
Forest Boyce leads the jockey standings with 52 winners, 24 more than Sheldon Russell.
PINO CLOSING IN ON ANOTHER MILESTONE
Mario Pino is two wins shy of 6,300 career wins after a victory aboard Corsica ($4.20) in this afternoon’s seventh race. The 49-year-old became the 14th rider in North America to reach the 6,000-win plateau three years ago. The Ellicott City resident ranked in the top five in the Maryland standings for 25 straight years (1979-2003). He has four scheduled mounts on Wednesday’s nine-race card.
