GLEAMING RUNS STREAK TO THREE
OKLAHOMA CITY – After winning by clear margins in the first two races of her streak, Gleaming added her third straight score, fighting for victory to win by a head in Wednesday’s $34,000 allowance event for older Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares.
Owned by the Dallas partnership of Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch, Gleaming is trained by Bret Calhoun and was ridden to her third consecutive triumph by Aaron Gryder. The 3-year-old filly sat just off the pace set by C J Jones in the six-furlong race, making her move off the lone turn.
At the top of the stretch Gleaming moved for the front with company from Everlastingly, who was attempting to win her fourth straight race of the season. The duo battled until the final yards when Gleaming took control and then had to fend off a late rally by Miss Natalie who settled for second as the 2-1 wagering favorite. C J Jones faded to seventh after leading early.
Gleaming covered six furlongs in 1:10.29 over the fast track.
At odds of 5-2 in the wagering, Gleaming paid $7 to win, $3.60 to place and $3 to show. Miss Natalie paid $4 to place and $2.60 to show as the beaten 2-1 favorite in the betting. Everlastingly held third and paid $2.80 to show.
All three of Gleaming’s career victories are at Remington Park this season. The only racing attempt that did not find her in the winner’s circle was her debut in August, when she finished third. A daughter of Dehere from the End Sweep mare Cupid’s Comet, Gleaming picked up another $19,815 for her efforts to move her career bankroll to $60,764.
The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Thursday thru Saturday this week with the first event nightly at 6:30pm. The season continues thru Dec. 11.
