WIDE RALLY WORKS WELL FOR TRICKY CAUSEWAY

OKLAHOMA CITY – Once Tricky Causeway uncorked his rally from the back of the eight-horse field in Saturday’s $30,850 allowance feature over the turf at Remington Park, rider Ramsey Zimmerman needed to make a decision. In winning by 1-1/2 lengths, he obviously chose correctly.

Owned by Frontier Stables of Palestine, Texas and trained by Chris Hartman, Tricky Causeway waited patiently at the rear of the field as they made their way through the first six furlongs of the one-mile race. When Zimmerman asked the 7-year-old gelding for his run he responded accordingly but had to find a way to the front.

Zimmerman opted to go wide around the final turn, and his opponents, with Tricky Causeway’s big rally. The move worked as he found the front with a sixteenth of a mile to go, passing the pace-setting Steal the Sticks late in the lane and then holding off a slighter rally by Garbu’s Son. Saint’s Relic was another half-length behind in third.

Tricky Causeway crossed the finish in 1:35.88 for the mile over the firm turf. He was 2-1 in the wagering and paid $6.80 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.60 to show. Garbu’s Son returned $9.40 to place and $5.40 to show. Saint’s Relic paid $3.60 to show.

The victory was the seventh from 31 career attempts for Tricky Causeway, a Kentucky-bred son of Giant’s Causeway from the Private Account mare Commodities. He has won two of his races at Remington Park, both this season. Earning $17,565 for the win, Tricky Causeway pushed his career money to $308,934.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season resumes Wednesday thru Sunday, Oct. 6-10, with a five-day Oklahoma Derby Week of racing. The weekend’s stakes races will begin on Friday, Oct. 8 with the first running of the $50,000 Kip Deville Stakes for 2-year-olds at six furlongs. The Kip Deville begins Remington Park’s 2-year-old stakes series that culminates with the $250,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 11.

The 22nd-running of the Oklahoma Derby is the main event on Oct. 10, the season’s lone Sunday of racing. The undercard is stellar with the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks and the $150,000 Remington Green Stakes leading the way. Also contested will be the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes and the $50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes. The first race on Oklahoma Derby Day is at 1:30pm.
