STEPHENGOTHISSTAR IMPRESSES AGAINST SOLID FIELD THURSDAY

OKLAHOMA CITY – Thursday’s $26,500 optional allowance/claiming feature had a field of 13 with many of the foes boasting stellar career resumes. The six-furlong battle went to Stephengothisstar as he knocked off rivals who had been on the Triple Crown trail and won many stakes events in the past.

Owned by On The Mark Racing of Houston and trained by Karl Broberg, Stephengothisstar was ridden by Quincy Hamilton. The 5-year-old gelding waited patiently in mid-pack before making his move out of the lone turn. Stephengothisstar drew away to win by 2-1/4 lengths, crossing the finish in 1:09.45 over the fast track.

Belend rallied from the back of the field to reach second at 28-1 with another long shot Platinum Devil at 55-1 running third, also from the back of the pack.

Stephengothisstar was 5-2 in the wagering and paid $7.20 to win, $3.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Belend returned $22.20 to place and $15.80 to show. Platinum Devil returned $12 to show.

Stephengothisstar also defeated Indygo Mountain (4th) who was on the Triple Crown trail early in 2009, Man Chester Man (8th) runner-up in the 2009 Springboard Mile here a year ago and Orphan Brigade (9th), a multiple stakes winner and earner of over $755,000 coming in to the race.

Orphan Brigade was the beaten 8-5 favorite in the race.

A Kentucky-bred gelding by Stephen Got Even from the Prospective Star mare Airistar, Stephengothisstar won his seventh race from 28 career attempts and his fifth race at Remington Park. It was his second consecutive win in Oklahoma City this season.

The winner’s share of $15,540 moves the lifetime earnings for Stephengothisstar to $113,144. He started the race for the optional claiming price of $20,000 and was claimed out of the event by new owner Black Hawk Stable of Elk City, Okla. and trainer Kenny Nolen.

The Remington Park racing week continues Friday and Saturday nights with the first event at 6:30pm.

The $1.1 million Oklahoma Classics night of racing for eligible Oklahoma-bred runners is next on the big event racing calendar on Friday, Oct. 22. A total of eight stakes races featuring the top state-breds will be presented during the Oklahoma Classics.
