OPPORTUNISTIC PACIFIC TSUNAMI PREVAILS IN TURF SPRINT

OKLAHOMA CITY – When front-runners floated wide leaving the turn into the stretch of Wednesday’s $29,500 optional allowance turf sprint at Remington Park, Pacific Tsunami took advantage of the gift, shooting through the opening to run to victory.

Owned by C.R. Chuck Ogle, Jr. of Weatherford, Texas and trained by Bret Calhoun, Pacific Tsunami rallied from just off the pace under Cliff Berry. The 4-year-old Texas-bred gelding waited behind a trio that set a fast pace before making his move.

Outlaw Avenue had the early lead, covering the opening quarter-mile in a quick :21.23 seconds with Tomahawk Creek applying pressure from second. When Outlaw Avenue could not hold his line and floated away from the rail at the exit of the turn, he took Tomahawk Creek with him toward the outside. Pacific Tsunami seized the chance and burst through to take a commanding lead in the stretch before prevailing by three lengths over St. Raphael (Ire), handling five furlongs in :56.42 seconds over the firm turf.

At odds of 4-1, Pacific Tsunami paid $10 to win, $5.20 to place and $2.80 to show. St. Raphael (Ire) returned $3.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Belend was along for third and paid $4 to show.

The win was the 10th from 20 career attempts for Pacific Tsunami and his first ever at Remington Park. A son of Magic Cat from the Eastern Echo mare Pacific Echo, Pacific Tsunami earned $17,610 to grow his lifetime total to $138,738.

Racing continues Thursday thru Saturday this week with the first event leaving the starting gate nightly at 6:30pm.
