OKIE BLONDE MAKES UP TON OF GROUND, WINS 2ND STRAIGHT
OKLAHOMA CITY – Okie Blonde won in late September at Remington Park, defeating Oklahoma-bred females with a rally from just off the pace. Wednesday night she stretched out in her first race around two-turns and used a different tactic, still achieving a winning result.
Owned by Southern Okie Boys of Enid, Okla. and trained by Roger Engel, Okie Blonde was ridden by Luis Quinonez in an $33,200 allowance race for Oklahoma-bred females going one mile. She settled in near the back of the 12-horse field early on and stayed there until the second turn. Midway through the final turn, Quinonez asked Okie Blonde for her best and she responded with a wide move around rivals at the top of the stretch.
Flying down the middle of the stretch, Okie Blonde quickly made up ground and caught the front-runners in the final yards to win by three-quarters of a length. She’llkisstheboys briefly had the advantage in late stretch after pressing the early pace set by Cosmic Baker who faded to fourth. Varna moved past the tiring pace-setter late to make third.
Okie Blonde handled one mile in 1:39.51 over a fast track.
At 2.4-1 odds in the wagering, Okie Blonde paid $6.80 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.20 to show. She’llkisstheboys returned $9.80 to place and $4.80 to show. Varna paid $7.20 to show.
Cagey Little Girl was the 2-1 wagering favorite, finishing seventh.
A 3-year-old filly by Service Stripe from the Blumin Affair mare Okie Nicole, Okie Blonde won her third career race from six attempts with all three triumphs taking place at Remington Park. She earned $19,135 for the win to move her career earnings to $56,711.
The Remington Park racing week continues Thursday thru Saturday with the first event at 6:30pm. The $1.1 million Oklahoma Classics night of racing for eligible Oklahoma-bred runners is next on the big event racing calendar on Friday, Oct. 22.
