GLENBEIGH RALLIES TO SCORE ON TURF, BUTLER TRIPLES
OKLAHOMA CITY – Veteran claimer Glenbeigh was extremely consistent over the Remington Park turf course throughout the season with three in the money finishes but no victories. Saturday night he remedied the situation with a rally to win by a half-length.
Against $25,000-level claimers for a purse of $13,000, Glenbeigh stalked the early pace in the 1-1/16 miles turf event, moving along the rail into the stretch under jockey Glen Murphy. The 3-year-old gelding seized an opening inside the furlong pole to move past traffic and to the lead, fending off Dandy’s Legacy to score in 1:45.18 over the firm going.
Owned by Lester Ellenz of Tipton, Kan. and trained by Clinton Stuart, Glenbeigh was the 6-5 wagering favorite, paying $4.60 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.60 to show. Dandy’s Legacy paid $3.80 to place and $3 to show. Sunset Rider returned $6.60 to show for his third-place run, two lengths behind the runner-up.
A Kentucky-bred son of Pollard’s Vision from the Housebuster mare Ring of Kerry, Glenbeigh won his third career race from 11 starts and his second at Remington Park. The winner’s share of $7,575 moves his lifetime earnings to $45,093.
Jockey Dean Butler enjoyed his top night of the Remington Park season, posting a riding triple. Butler scored with Teenie ($9.60 to win) in the third race, Cotswold Hills ($15.80) in the sixth and Burst of Life ($17.60) in the seventh. The hat trick for Butler gives him 10 wins on the season.
The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Wednesday thru Saturday, Oct. 20-23, with the first race each night at 6:30pm.
The $1.1 million Oklahoma Classics night of racing for eligible Oklahoma-bred runners is next on the big event racing calendar, in one week, on Friday, Oct. 22. A total of eight stakes races featuring the top state-breds will be presented during the Oklahoma Classics.
