CHECK MY HALO NAU CATCHES PACE-SETTER TO WIN AGAIN
OKLAHOMA CITY – Another closing rush from well back was enough for Check My Halo Nau to win her second consecutive turf event at Remington Park. The 5-year-old mare flew from next to last in the field of 10 with a half-mile to run, catching pace-setting Sea of Dreams to win by three-quarters of a length.
Owned by Norm Hollingsworth of Oklahoma City and trained by Aaron Box, Check My Halo Nau was ridden to victory again by Benny Landeros. Friday’s featured $28,500 allowance event on the turf was the stage for Check My Halo Nau as she rolled from nine lengths behind while leaving the backstretch into the final turn. The Kentucky-bred mare roared down the homestretch to just get up over Sea of Dreams in the final strides, covering the 7-1/2 furlongs over firm turf in 1:32.09.
Eyes of a Saint was 1-1/4 lengths behind the runner-up in third with Wheeling Wini along for fourth.
Played at 5-1 in the wagering, Check My Halo Nau paid $13 to win, $5.40 to place and $4 to show. Sea of Dreams returned $4.40 to place and $3.20 to show. Eyes of a Saint paid $3.40 to show.
The exacta (Nos.1-5) paid $84.80 while the quinella (1-5) paid $30.20. The trifecta combination (1-5-3) paid $374 with the superfecta (1-5-3-8) returning $2,863.80.
