ATHENIA (G3) QUOTES

Kiaran McLaughlin, winning trainer of Eye of Taurus (No. 7): “My assistant, Andrew St. Lawrence, had her all summer at Monmouth, and he’s done a good job. She likes it soft, and she ran big. We’re happy that Eddie Castro came to ride. It always looked like she was traveling well. She does well in the fall.”

Eddie Castro, wining jockey aboard Eye of Taurus (No. 7): “I got a good position behind the front-running horses. When I hit the top of the stretch and asked her, she gave me a nice kick. She ran big today, like she did last time at Monmouth (Revidere Stakes on September 11th). She’s just doing really well now.”

Rick Dutrow, Jr., trainer of runner-up and beaten favorite Mary’s Follies (No. 2): “It worked out very well for us, except for not winning, but I am not at all disappointed. It was her first time against older fillies, plus it was a slow pace, her first time over the course and she was coming off a long layoff. I’m very happy with things.”

Kent Desormeaux, rider of runner-up and beaten favorite Mary's Follies (No. 2): She felt great. She was eager to run and she's a consummate professional; she does everything perfectly. She kicked really hard and she ran a winning race, but the winner did, too.”
