NEW YORK RACING MOVES TO BIG A ON NOVEMBER 5

 

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Thoroughbred racing action moves to New York City’s only racetrack when Aqueduct Racetrack begins its 36-day fall meet on Friday, November 5, with opening weekend featuring the simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and a trio of exciting live graded stakes.

 

Racing fans can cheer on their favorite New York horses and watch and wager on all the Breeders’ Cup action from Churchill Downs at Aqueduct on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6. Gates open at 11 a.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, with parking gates opening at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, and as always, admission and general parking are free at the Big A.

 

In addition to the Breeders’ Cup simulcast, Aqueduct offers live racing over the three-day opening weekend, highlighted by Saturday’s 51st running of the Grade 2, $150,000 Red Smith Handicap on the turf and a pair of stakes for 2-year-olds, the Grade 2, $150,000 Nashua and the Grade 3, $100,000 Tempted for fillies, both at a mile.

 

The Red Smith, Nashua and Tempted launch a stakes schedule that features a dozen graded stakes including the Holidayfest centerpieces of the meet, the Grade 1, $250,000 Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile and Grade 1, $250,000 Gazelle for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday, November 27.

 

Presented by the New York Lottery, Holidayfest kicks off with the Grade 3, $100,000 Fall Highweight Handicap on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, and continues on Friday with the Grade 2, $150,000 Top Flight Handicap for fillies and mares. The Grade 2, $200,000 Remsen for 2-year-olds and the Grade 2, $200,000 Demoiselle for 2-year-old fillies join the Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile and the Gazelle on Saturday.

 

On Thanksgiving Day, admission gates open at 9:30 a.m. with a special first race post time of 11:25 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27, post time is noon.

 

Otherwise, gates open at 11 a.m. with a first race post time of 12:30 p.m., with racing conducted Wednesday through Sunday.

 

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will offer a $250,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4 on Saturdays at Aqueduct beginning November 13.

 

This year for the first time simulcast wagering on seven major South American racetracks will be available to New York racing fans Wednesdays through Sundays, beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m. following the simulcasts from Calder Race Course or Laurel Park. Fans can also wager on the South American races through NYRA Rewards Internet Wagering or Telebet.

 

Aqueduct will be closed for a winter break from December 20 through December 28, with racing resuming on Wednesday, December 29.

 

OPENING WEEKEND

FRIDAY-SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5-7

 

Aqueduct is the perfect place to watch and wager on the Breeders’ Cup on Friday and Saturday, November 5-6. In addition, there will also be great live racing at Aqueduct that weekend. Many of the top dirt juveniles will be contesting the Grade 2 Nashua and the Grade 3 Tempted, along with the Grade 2 Red Smith for 3-year-olds and up going 1 3/8 miles on the turf, on Saturday, and 10 exciting live races on Sunday.

 

PICK THE PROS AND PONIES

SUNDAYS BEGINNING NOVEMBER 7

           

The best of two great sporting worlds meet every Sunday during live racing at Aqueduct’s Fall Meet with the popular Pick the Pros and Ponies Contest, beginning on November 7.

 

It’s a free contest in which contestants must correctly pick the winners of four designated National Football League games as well as the winners of races 3 and 5 on the day’s card for the chance to win a $1,000 prize. All entries must be in by 1 p.m. on contest day.

 

BIG A FALL HANDICAPPING CHALLENGE

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13 AND SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14

 

The nationally acclaimed 2010 Aqueduct Fall Handicapping Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14. Whet your thoroughbred racing appetite as you prepare for the meal of the year!  An early post time gets you home on time for turkey, yams, and stuffing.  The Grade 3 Fall Highweight Championship is featured on the special holiday card.  Post time 11:25 a.m., and racing concludes at approximately 3:00 p.m.

 

BLACK FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26

 

It’s the biggest shopping day of the year, which is all the more reason to head to Aqueduct for a day of live racing, featuring the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap. Post time is noon.

WINTER SKI CAP PROMOTION

The final two Grade 1 races in New York this year are the $250,000 Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile and the $250,000 Gazelle for 3-year-old fillies. These two prestigious contests top a spectacular card also featuring a pair of important Grade 2 races for juveniles, the Remsen for colts and the Demoiselle for fillies, both run at 1 1/8 miles. Also on Saturday, fans can get a winter ski cap with the purchase a $2 coupon. Post time is noon.

Midtown Tunnel to Long Island Expressway East, to Van Wyck Expressway South, to Exit 3 – Linden Blvd.  Turn right on Linden Blvd., follow signs to track entrance. 

From Brooklyn

Belt Parkway East, to Exit 19 – Lefferts Blvd.  Make left onto Lefferts to North Conduit Ave.  Left on North Conduit Ave to racetrack entrance.

From Long Island

Belt Parkway West to Exit 18B.  Racetrack is a half-mile on the right.

From Staten Island & Southern New Jersey

Verrazano Bridge to Belt Parkway East to Exit 19 Lefferts Blvd.  Make left turn to North Conduit.  Left on North Conduit to racetrack entrance.

From Connecticut & Westchester

Any route to Whitestone Bridge.  Take Van Wyck Expressway to Exit 3 – Linden Blvd.  Follow Signs to track entrance.
