SHUT THE GATE STEPS UP TO CONTINUE STREAK AT REMINGTON PARK

OKLAHOMA CITY – Heavy fog greeted the race night Thursday at Remington Park, eventually clearing under a steady light rain. Shut The Gate handled the wet weather just fine as she rolled to her second consecutive victory, ascending from low claiming ranks into allowance company versus 13 other Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares.

Owned by B and S Racing of Springfield, Mo. and trained by Scott Young, Shut The Gate was ridden confidently by Belen Quinonez. The 3-year-old filly, made the front of the field coming off the turn in the 6-1/2 furlongs, then held sway over 2-1 wagering favorite Cass Lake Kitty who could not make up ground. Shut The Gate crossed the finished 2-1/4 lengths best, handling the distance in 1:18:18 over a fast track.

Shut The Gate won a $7,500-level claiming event on Halloween, then moved up in competition to post her allowance score Thursday.

Leaving the starting gate at 6-1 odds in the betting, Shut The Gate paid $15.60 to win, $9.80 to place and $5.80 to show. Cass Lake Kitty returned $4.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Gold Tale closed with a rush for third, four lengths behind the winner, to pay $4.80 to show.

Shut The Gate won her third race from seven attempts, earning $21,666 in the process to run her total money to $48,911. She is an Oklahoma-bred daughter by Liquor Cabinet (Ire) from the Stauder mare Hide N Watch.

Remington Park now has just five race dates remaining in the 2014 season. The action continues Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 & 6, with the first race nightly at 7pm Central.

Remington Park is open daily at 10:30am for simulcast racing and casino gaming, featuring the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, the home of the $250,000 Springboard Mile on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Tracked by over 74,000 fans on Facebook and 5,900 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
