RIBBON OF DARKNESS RALLIES IN FEATURE TO PUT CALDWELL WITHIN REACH OF RECORD

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season moved into December and its final seven race dates of 2014 with a nine-race program Wednesday. Ribbon Of Darkness gained victory in the $36,600 allowance feature for older fillies and mares to give her owner, Danny Caldwell, his 35th win for the season.

The Poteau, Okla. owner now needs just one win to tie the Remington Park record for owning wins in the season, and two wins to make the mark just his. Gary Owens of Mustang, Okla. currently holds the record for wins by an owner with 36, set in 2005.

Trained by Federico Villafranco and ridden by Ramon Vazquez, Ribbon Of Darkness rallied from mid-pack in the field of 11, sweeping wide into the stretch off the final turn. The 4-year-old filly pulled away to a 1-3/4 lengths score, handling 1 mile-70 yards in 1:43.63 over a fast track.

Lingering Smoke, the 3-2 wagering favorite, was second behind Ribbon Of Darkness with Alteza third.

Ribbon Of Darkness was 5-2 in the betting and paid $7.20 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.60 to show. Lingering Smoke returned $3.60 to place and $2.60 to show. Alteza paid $4.20 to show.

The win was the fourth from 15 career starts for Ribbon Of Darkness, an Oklahoma-bred filly by Foreign Policy from the Alamocitos mare Groovin Allie. The winner’s check of $21,819 now gives Ribbon Of Darkness total earnings of $94,962.

Remington Park now has just six race dates remaining in the 2014 season. The action continues Thursday thru Saturday, Dec. 4-6, with the first race nightly at 7pm Central.

Remington Park is open daily at 10:30am for simulcast racing and casino gaming, featuring the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, the home of the $250,000 Springboard Mile on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Tracked by over 74,000 fans on Facebook and 5,900 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
