NEW ORLEANS (Monday, December 22, 2014) – Racing fans have always loved the thrill of the stretch run, and on January 10 they will be able to experience it first-hand from the racetrack when Fair Grounds endeavors to host the biggest stick pony race in Louisiana.

Participants will be able to negotiate a 110-yard trip over the Fair Grounds main track, starting at the sixteenth pole and ending at the finish line. While no prizes will be offered in this unofficial "race," fans will be able to take part in a unique new experience and a collective effort to create the largest stick pony race in the state.

The stick pony experience will be limited to guests over the age of 18 and will cost $5. Complimentary water, coffee and soft drinks will be available for stick pony racers, with additional beer and food available for purchase. Participants will be able to keep their stick pony after the event as a souvenir.

Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. in the Starlight tent on the west side of the track apron in advance of the race which will begin at 12:15 p.m. General admission is free, and guests are encouraged to stay after the stick pony race for a live racing card that begins at 1:25 p.m.
