Dame Dorothy takes on challengers in Comely

OZONE PARK, N.Y. Unbeaten in four starts to start her career, Dame Dorothy will look to keep her perfect record intact facing a field of eight others in the 65th edition of the Grade 3, $400,000 Comely Stakes for 3-year old fillies on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The Comely, contested at 1-1/8 miles, is part of a 10-race card that also features the Grade 1, $500,000 Cigar Mile, Grade 2, $400,000 Remsen, and Grade 2 $400,000 Demoiselle.

Owned by celebrity chef Bobby Flay and trained by Todd Pletcher, Dame Dorothy, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, has earned each of her wins at different racetracks, and is coming off a victory against older horses in the Grade 3, $200,000 Turnback The Alarm on October 26 at Belmont Park in her graded stakes debut.

"She came off a layoff in her last race against a very tough field. [She's] in good form and we're happy with where we're at right now," said Pletcher's assistant, Byron Hughes.

Dame Dorothy will leave from post 4 and will be ridden by Javier Castellano.

The Chad Brown-trained filly Catch My Drift, finished just a half-length behind Dame Dorothy in the Turnback. She has three wins in five starts this year, including allowance victories at Parx and Monmouth Park, for Hidden Brook Farm.

"This filly is doing really well. [She's] the perfect example of being patient, working her way up, [and] starting to blossom into form," said Brown.

Catch My Drift is 5-1 and will be ridden by Hall of Famer John Velazquez from post position 7.

Godolphin Stable will enter a trio with Penwith from post position 2, Divided Attention from post position 8, and Snowbell from post positon 3. Penwith and Divided Attention both trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, enter the Comely after running in stakes races out of town.

Penwith, who finished third in the Grade 2, $200,000 Indiana Oaks at Indiana Downs will have Joel Rosario aboard while; Divided Attention enters following a troubled trip in the Grade 2, $250,000 Raven Run at Keeneland, and will be ridden by Irad Ortiz. Jr.

"It's a tough race, but we think that she [Divided Attention] belongs. Penwith was just third in the Indiana Oaks, and she won an allowance race at Saratoga. Both of them belong and have a chance," said McLaughlin.

Snowbell, trained by Tom Albertrani, enters off an 8-½ length allowance victory at Belmont Park. The gray filly by Tapit out of Burmilla last worked four furlongs in 49.69 seconds at the Belmont training track.

The Godolphin entry is listed at 4-1 on the morning line.

Rounding out the field are Princess Violet, a New York-bred who last won the $250,000 Empire Distaff Handicap, 4-1; Flipcup, 12-1 who finished second to Princess Violet in the Empire Distaff; House Rules, coming off a victory in an optional claimer at Aqueduct; and Shayjolie, who recently placed second in the $100,000 Safely Kept stakes at Laurel Park.
