Temperence Hill Invitational Quotes

Marya Montoya, winning trainer of Ever Rider (No. 5): "We were a little bit concerned because he hadn't run in the mud over here, just in Argentina. I wasn't sure if it was different. Everyone seems to think he needs to be on the lead .... he doesn't need to be on the lead. We ran him in the Greenwood Cup and he'd been sick for a week so he missed a lot of training. He made the move a little early that day and had to put away a couple of different horses. Javier [Castellano] did a beautiful job. He sat off it and made one run. I was getting a little nervous because he was six back and I knew horses weren't coming from far back, so we're glad to have the opportunity with this horse. It's been a great ride. We're thinking about the [Grade 3 Las Vegas Marathon, Santa Anita Park, October 31]; we'll see how he comes out of this."

Javier Castellano, winning rider aboard Ever Rider (No. 5): "It was an awesome trip. My horse, as you see in his past performances, always dictates the pace, but today he sat off [of the pace]. He did it the right way today. Two horses hooked up early, and it set it up perfectly for my horse. I like the way he finished. Usually you don't see horses finish strong at this distance, but I had a lot of horse in the end."
