Breast cancer survivors to be honored at Belmont Park this Saturday

 

 

WHO:             Breast cancer survivors consisting of New York Racing Association  employees, members of the local community, and racing fans from across the tri-state region.

WHAT:           Recognized for their courage and inspiration.

Trophy presentations in the winner's circle following the completion of the first three races, scheduled to run at 12:50 p.m., 1:21 p.m. and 1:52 p.m.

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

 

  • The New York Racing Association will be offering free admission to Belmont Park on Saturday, October 4 for all guests wearing pink. Donation tables benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) will be set up in the Clubhouse lobby and in the first floor of the Grandstand with the Chili Fest, with pink ribbons and bracelets available at both locations for guests.
     
  • Jockeys participating in Saturday's races will be wearing pink armbands in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink flowers, bunting and carpeting also will be found throughout Belmont Park on Saturday.
     
  • All proceeds from Saturday's inaugural Belmont Park Chili Festival will be donated to the BCRF. For a $10 donation, guests will sample and vote for the best chili from five local restaurants: Park Place, Shackleton's, Dee Dee's Luncheonette, Tulip Catering and Murphy's Bar and Grill. The festival will taking place on the first floor of the Grandstand between noon and 4 p.m., with the winner announced following the seventh race.
     
  • Four stakes races worth $1.7 million in purses are scheduled to run on Saturday, including two Breeders' Cup qualifying races. This includes the running of the Frizette (6th race, scheduled for 3:25 p.m.), and the running of the  Champagne (8th race, scheduled for 4:29 p.m.).
