LINGERING SMOKE ROLLS TO 11-LENGTH VICTORY

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lingering Smoke overcame issues with fading in the stretch run by winning a $38,250 allowance for Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares, Thursday at Remington Park by a whopping 11 lengths.

Owned by Carol Waller of McLoud, Okla. and trained by Roger Engel, Lingering Smoke was ridden by Floyd Wethey, Jr. In two previous starts this season, Lingering Smoke was a contender into the stretch run but would tire in the final furlong. Endurance was plentiful Thursday as Lingering Smoke stalked the early pace set by Awesome Tale, pouncing to the lead at the top of the stretch, then pulling clear. Lingering Smoke handled one mile in 1:38.25 over a fast main track.

Awesome Tale held second with Nurse G rallying from next to last in the field of eight to take third, just a half-length behind the runner-up.

The even-money wagering favorite, Lingering Smoke paid $4 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show. Awesome Tale paid $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Nurse G returned $4.80 to show.

A 3-year-old filly by Mr Nightlinger from the Smoke Glacken mare Daddy Sez Smokem, Lingering Smoke won for the second time in 13 career attempts and posted her first Remington Park win in nine Oklahoma City tries. The first-place check of $21,972 moves the career earnings for Lingering Smoke to $74,749.

The Oklahoma Classics are featured Friday at Remington Park. The 10-race program of Oklahoma-bred stakes will carry more than $1 Million in purse money and will begin at 7pm.

Remington Park is open daily at 10:30am for simulcast racing and casino gaming, featuring the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, the home of the $1,000,000 Oklahoma Classics on Friday, Oct. 17.

Tracked by over 69,000 fans on Facebook and 5,800 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
