NEW GAL IN TOWN GAINS FIRST TURF WIN

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – The lone allowance event on Saturday at Remington Park was over the turf at 7-1/2 furlongs. The $31,000 race for older fillies and mares went to New Gal In Town who drove to the front in the field of 10 and was never challenged in winning her first career race on the lawn.

 

Owned by Randy Patterson of Anthony, Kan. and trained by Randy Morse, New Gal In Town was ridden by Terry Thompson. The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly took the lead from the start and led throughout to score by two lengths over the late-running Talkin Taylor. The 4-5 wagering favorite, Tickle Again, was 2-1/4 lengths behind the winner for third.

 

Crossing the finish in 1:30.39 over the firm course, New Gal In Town was 9-1 in the wagering and paid $21 to win, $7 to place and $3.20 to show. Talkin Taylor paid $9.60 to place and $4 to show. Tickle Again paid $2.10 to show.

 

The first turf score for New Gal In Town was her fourth career victory from 23 attempts and her first career victory at Remington Park. A 4-year-old filly by Bernstein from the Touch Gold mare Termalina, New Gal In Town made $18,345 to run her lifetime earnings to  $121,748.

 

Remington Park now moves into Oklahoma Derby Week. Live racing will not be held on Wednesday night as the special schedule moves to Thursday thru Sunday, Sept. 25-28. The first race is 7pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The special Sunday program featuring the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby will begin at 1:30pm.
