TWO-YEAR-OLDS SPOTLIGHTED SATURDAY AT ARLINGTON
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2014) – Two-year-olds grab center stage on Saturday at Arlington International Racecourse when the track presents its signature juvenile events – the Grade III $125,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity and the Listed $100,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie. Each of these events has been shortened for 2014 from one mile to seven furlongs – a distance at which these races thrived in their rich histories.
The Futurity attracted a field of eight headed by Mellon Patch Inc.'s Private Prospect. Claimed for $50,000 out of his victorious debut, the son of Discreet Cat went on to capture a pair of stakes races in Iowa – the $75,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile and the $100,000 Prairie Meadows Juvenile Mile – to remain unbeaten in three starts. The Mike Campbell trainee will be ridden Saturday for the first time by his son Jesse, who will be returning to Arlington for the first time in several seasons.
When it comes to 2-year-olds, no trainer has held a hotter hand in recent years than Jimmy DiVito who sends out Doubledown Stables' Recount for Saturday's headliner. The gelded son of Limehouse won at first asking when going 5½ furlongs here on July 20 before finishing third to Private Prospect in Iowa on Aug. 9. Emmanuel Esquivel has the mount.
Trainer Mike Stidham, who is enjoying a strong meet with 2-year-olds, has a pair entered in Ike and Dawn Trash's Ike Walker and Feel The Thunder Stable's One Go All Go. The former, a Bellamy Road colt, was an impressive 7¼-length winner on Aug. 7 under Channing Hill, who has a return call in the Futurity. The latter was an easy 5¼-length winner for a $62,500 tag on Aug. 22. Tim Thornton will again be aboard the son of Fairbanks.
The remainder of the Futurity field (with jockeys listed) includes: Michael Langford's Seraph (Chris Emigh), an Indiana Grand maiden winner on Aug. 12; Holmark Stables's Bourbon Cowboy (Florent Geroux), a winner last out on Aug. 9; Vegso Racing Stable's Mr Lightning Boy (Edgar Perez), fourth in the Juvenile Mile last out after breaking his maiden here in July; and Glockenburg LLC's Tender May (Alexander Reznikov), fourth in his lone start on Aug. 16.
Coming off an 11¾-length victory at first asking, it's easy to see why Joe Ragsdale's Sarah Sis has stamped herself the filly to beat in the Lassie. The daughter of Sharp Humor was never asked in the six-furlong maiden race en route to the easy score. Julio Felix has the mount aboard the Ingrid Mason trainee.
Crystal Racing Enterprises' Happy to Go returns to her Arlington International Racecourse homebase after two stakes starts in Canada where she finished third in the Listed $125,000 My Dear Stakes and fifth in the Listed $125,000 Ontario Debutnate. In her lone local start, the Armando De La Cerda-trained daughter of Saint Anddan broke her maiden going 4½ furlongs. Israel Ocampo has been named to ride.

S. D. Brilie Ltd. Partnership's Puntsville is one of two entered by trainer Christine Janks. The daughter of Cashel Castle broke her maiden last out on July 31. Florent Geroux picks up the mount. Janks also sends out Carson Springs Farm's Sugar Talk, an Illinois-bred daughter of Flatter who beat restricted company first out. Chris Emigh will ride.
Completing the field for the Lassie (with jockeys listed are) are: Twyla Beckner and Howard Durand's Lemon Gala (Edgar Perez), a 3½-length winner on Aug. 10; Destiny Oaks Of Ocala's Quality Rocks (Rosemary Homemeister Jr.), a Presque Isle Downs maiden winner on Aug. 13; and Casner Racing LLC's Susan's Day (Emmanuel Esquivel), winner of a Presque Isle maiden race last month.
