ADELAIDE, TOURIST LIKELY CHOICES IN SECRETARIAT

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2014) –   The European-based Irish-bred Adelaide and American-bred and –based Tourist top a field of nine sophomores entered for Saturday's Grade I $500,000 Secretariat Stakes at a mile and a quarter over Arlington International Racecourse's turf course.

Adelaide, who races for the partnership of Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, John Ingham, Bill Webb, John Murray and Tom Magnier, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite.  The son of Galileo has already made one start stateside, finishing second on July 5 in the Grade I Belmont Derby in New York.  The Aidan O'Brien trainee has never been worse than second in a five-race career that includes a score in the Group III Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh and a pair of Group II runner-up finishes in the Prix Hocquart at Longchamp in May and the King Edward VII Stakes during the Royal Ascot meeting in June.  Ryan Moore, who rode Adelaide in the Hocquart, has the mount Saturday.

WinStar Farm's Tourist has been unbeatable since trainer Bill Mott moved the son of Tiznow to the grass earlier this year.  After breaking his maiden over the Gulfstream Park lawn in February and earning a little rest, he has won twice more including a gate-to-wire score in the restricted $100,000 Sir Cat Stakes at Saratoga last out.  Despite his lack of racing against top-level company, he comes in highly regarded having posted some of the best speed figures among the entrants.  Joel Rosario will ride.

Glen Hill Farm's Global View will be making his Arlington racing debut but the Tom Proctor trainee has been a regular visitor to the local turf course during the course of his summer campaign.  The son of Galileo won the Grade II American Turf at Churchill Downs on the Kentucky Derby Day undercard.  Since that effort, Global View has run second in the $500,000 Penn Mile and then seventh in the Belmont Derby.  Julien Leparoux will be aboard the colt for the first time Saturday.

Let's Go Stable's Divine Oath and Team Valor International's Highball, the one-three finishers, respectively, in the Grade III American Derby, return for the Secretariat Stakes.  The former, a son of Broken Vow, was fourth in the Penn Mile and second in the Grade III Lexington in his two starts prior to the American Derby.  The latter, by Lemon Drop Kid, broke his maiden at Churchill Downs a month before.  Trainer Todd Pletcher retains the services of Florent Geroux aboard Divine Oath while 11-time Arlington training champion Wayne Catalano has given the mount for Highball to Frankie Dettori.

In addition to the favored Adelaide, the O'Brien yard sends Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable and Brous Stable's Belisarius, most recently second in the Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon in Ireland. Colm O'Donoghue, who won the 2011 Secretariat  aboard Treasure Beach, will ride.

The remainder of the Secretariat field is American-based and includes F. Thomas Conway and Michael Maker's General Jack (Robby Albarado), winner of the Listed Centaur Stakes at Indiana Grand for Maker; Albert Frassetto's Can'thelpbelieving (Alan Garcia), an allowance winner last out for trainer Graham Motion; and Ninety North Racing Stable's Sheldon (Javier Castellano), the Jimmy Toner-trained colt who finished fifth in the Belmont Derby in July.

The Secretariat Stakes, one of four major turf races that comprise Arlington's International Festival of Racing, will kick off a $100,000 guaranteed Pick-4 that includes the Grade I $500,000 Beverly D., the Grade I Arlington Million and conclude with the $75,000 Hatoof Stakes.
