GO BEHIND-THE-SCENES OF THE HORSE RACING ACTION WITH ESPN RADIO BROADCAST THIS THURSDAY FROM THE STREETS OF DOWNTOWN SARATOGA
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Local Thursday night staple and live-audience radio show "At The Post Live" kicks off another Saratoga weekend off the track, on the air and in the streets with its weekly broadcast on ESPN 104.5 FM "The Team" from The Parting Glass Pub in downtown Saratoga Springs.
Joining national racing expert and show host Andy Serling are Hall of Fame trainer JONATHAN SHEPPARD, elite jockey IRAD ORTIZ, JR., expert bloodstock agent and racing analyst FRANK LYONS, and TimeformUS analyst MIKE BEER.
Jonathan Sheppard is the all-time leading American steeplechase trainer and a National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame inductee. Sheppard's standout jumpers include Hall of Famers Café Prince and Flatterer, and steeplechase champions Athenian Idol, Martie's Anger, Jimmy Lorenzo, Highland Bud and Mixed Up. On the flat, his success at Saratoga Race Course is unprecedented with at least one victory in every meet since 1969. Sheppard's Saratoga triumphs also include multiple meet titled (1984, 1985) and a pair of Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap victories (2001, 2002) saddling With Anticipation. Sheppard has more than 3,000 wins in his career and two Breeders' Cup victories as the trainer for Forever Together (2008 Filly & Mare Turf) and Informed Decision (2009 Filly & Mare Sprint). Other notable conquests on the flat include the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes, the Diana Handicap, Man o' War, Chicago Handicap, Northern Dancer Turf Stakes and the Kentucky Cup Turf Stakes.
Irad Ortiz, Jr. currently is one of the top-five leading jockeys at the 2014 Saratoga meet. His latest major stakes victory came in last Saturday's Longines Test Stakes atop Sweet Reason, who is trained by Leah Gyarmati and also won the TVG Acorn Stakes at Belmont. Ortiz's portfolio of Grade 1 race titles also includes the 2012 Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama Stakes with Questing, later named that year's Champion Three-Year-Old Filly.
Frank Lyons is a Southern California-based bloodstock agent with an impressive international portfolio. Lyons has bought several graded stakes winners such as Ariege (G1), Castledale (G1), Frost Giant (G1), Shining Energy (G1), and Whatsthescript (G2). In 1995, he saddled Desert Stormer to win the Breeders' Cup Sprint. When Lyons is not prospecting talented horses, he is offering selections as a racing personality on TVG.
Mike Beer is TimeformUS's analyst specializing in NYRA racing. Beer is a co-host of Talkin' Horses, NYRA's daily handicapping show, four days a week at Saratoga, and writes regularly for TimeformUS.com and NYRA.com. Prior to joining TimeformUS, Beer was a featured Daily Racing Form handicapper for NYRA tracks.
This year's show is presented by NYRA Rewards and participating partners, Capital OTB, and TimeformUS. Community partners include the New York Special Olympics, Saratoga Hospital Foundation, Brave Will Foundation, Parting Glass Pub, and the legendary Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can Foundation. "At The Post Live" is produced and distributed by Camden Entertainment.
