Thursday, July 24, 2014 Contact: Sean Morris smorris@nyrainc.com Saratoga to host weekly live-money, "low roller" tournaments SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Saratoga Race Course will host its first ever live-money tournament on Monday, July 28, when guests will be able to experience the thrill of tournament play for just $40. The live-money format was first unveiled downstate on July 12 at Belmont Park and was well-received in its first iteration. A total of 70 patrons entered, with first-place finisher Isis Messrie walking away with $490 in prize money, while runner-up Frank Lazzarano earned $140 and third-place finisher Matt Bernier took home $70. The breakdown of the entry fee is as follows: $10 goes to the prize pool - with 70% to be awarded to the first-place finisher, 20% to second, and 10% to third - and the remaining $30 comprises the entrant's bankroll. Participants must select five races on which to place live $2 win, place, and show wagers that must be placed on five different horses in five different races. Only Saratoga races will be accepted for contest play. Sign-up will be on the first floor of the grandstand, with tournaments running every Monday at Saratoga. -30-
