| Wednesday, July 9, 2014 Contact: Sean Morris smorris@nyrainc.com Grandeur finds easier spot in G2 Bowling Green ELMONT, N.Y. - Multiple graded stakes winner Grandeur will get some considerable class relief when he contests the Grade 2, $200,000 Bowling Green on Saturday at Belmont Park. The Bowling Green - run at 1 ½ miles on turf for older horses - marks the final graded stakes of the Belmont spring/summer Meet before racing shifts to Saratoga Race Course on July 18. Trained by Jeremy Noseda for Yvonne Jacques, Grandeur enters Saturday's turf marathon off a pair of solid efforts in Grade 1 races at Belmont. Two starts ago, the son of Irish-based sire Verglas finished third in the 1 3/8-mile Man O' War, beaten only 1 ¼ lengths by the winner, Imagining. In his last start - the 1 ¼-mile Knob Creek Manhattan on Belmont Stakes Day - Grandeur closed furiously, but ran out of ground and had to settle for fourth in his first start with Lasix. Joel Rosario will be aboard Grandeur, the 6-5 morning line favorite, and the duo will break from post 5. The Grade 1-placed Hangover Kid will stretch back out in distance on Saturday. The 6-year-old horse is winless in three starts in 2014, with two second-place finishes to his credit, the most recent of which came in the Grade 2, 1 1/8-mile Monmouth. Hangover Kid had some success in turf marathons in 2013, earning third-place honors in the Grade 1 United Nations and checking in a fast-closing second in the Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct. Both races were contested at 1 3/8 miles. At 5-1 on the morning line, Hangover Kid will break from the rail with Jose Lezcano aboard. The Todd Pletcher-trained Boisterous will also get some class relief in the Bowling Green. The 7-year-old horse has started four times since being transferred to Pletcher following his 2013 campaign, with three of those starts coming in Grade 1 races. In 2013, Boisterous took the Grade 2 Monmouth and Grade 1 Man o' War before his form tailed off to close out the year. Most recently, the son of Distorted Humor finished seventh in the Grade 1 Knob Creek Manhattan. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez has the mount aboard Boisterous, 3-1 on the morning line, and the pair will break from post 3. Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey and Phipps Stable, who teamed up to win the Grade 1, $1.25 million Belmont Derby on Stars & Stripes Day with Mr Speaker, will send out Reflecting on Saturday. Reflecting is one of two horses in the Bowling Green that will be turning back in distance, having finished third, beaten a length, in the inaugural running of the two-mile Belmont Gold Cup on June 6. The son of Elusive Quality is winless since April 11, 2013, when he took a second-level allowance race at 1 ½ miles on turf at Keeneland. "I thought he ran good the last time," said McGaughey. "He's done really well since that race, so I'm looking forward to running him. He worked with Mr Speaker last week and he worked as well as he did. We'll see." Reflecting will be ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. from post 7, and sits at 8-1 on the morning line. Rounding out the field are Horvat Clan, who won a first-level allowance race at 1 ½ miles in his most recent start, Chamois, who is also exiting the Grade 1 Knob Creek Manhattan for trainer Christophe Clement, and Sky Blazer, fifth-place finisher in the Belmont Gold Cup.
